Among them, in order to compete with the Focke-Wulf Fw190, a new fighter plane of the Luftwaffe that appeared over the English Channel in September 1941 and took air superiority from the Royal Air Force, the main type Mk.V engine was 2-stage, 2-speed supercharged. The Mk.IX was replaced with a new Rolls-Royce Merlin 60 series engine equipped with a new engine, achieving significant performance improvements with minimal improvements.
Most of them were Mk.IXc equipped with C-wings equipped with two 20mm cannons and four 7.7mm machine guns.
The Mk.IXc, which began deploying as early as July 1942, overwhelmed the Fw190 with its maximum speed of 669km/h and superior high-altitude performance.
Not only did it lead the war situation to the British army's advantage, but it also recorded the second highest production number of 5,500 aircraft throughout the series, and became the main force of the Royal Air Force from the middle of the war onwards.
