Unique and Refined Imaging Characteristics. By intentionally tuning the lens design, you can capture what is commonly known as "rainbow flare" in photos when shooting at full aperture in strong backlit conditions. By carefully adjusting the position and size of the rainbow flare, which changes depending on the light source and subject, you can enjoy unique and refined images not available with the latest lens designs. Furthermore, by narrowing the aperture to f/4 or higher, you can capture clear images with rainbow flare, as well as normal ghosting and flare, suppressed. Following the design of the retro-design "smc PENTAX-FA 50mmF1.4," this lens features a matte black exterior and a matte black focus ring. It deliberately omits the green lens ring, a design feature of recent PENTAX digital-compatible lenses, instead adopting a retro design reminiscent of the era of film SLR cameras. When attached to a PENTAX digital SLR camera, it provides a 50mm standard angle of view on full-frame cameras, and a medium telephoto angle of view equivalent to 76.5mm on APS-C cameras. As a standard lens that captures an angle of view similar to the human field of view on full-frame cameras, it is ideal for a variety of subjects, including snapshots, landscapes, and portraits. The large F1.4 maximum aperture enables photographic expression that takes advantage of an extremely shallow depth of field. The front of the lens is coated with SP (SuperProtect) coating, which is highly water- and oil-repellent and easy to wipe clean. The eight-blade circular diaphragm suppresses light beams when photographing point light sources and produces a soft bokeh from maximum aperture to F2.8. By supporting aperture setting on the lens and AF using the in-body motor, all functions can be used when the lens is attached to older K-mount digital SLR cameras and AF film SLR cameras.
