The F-15J Eagle is the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's main fighter interceptor.

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force is the third country in the world to be equipped with Eagles, after the U.S.
Air Force and Israel.

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force, which had been using the F-104J as an interceptor fighter until then, investigated the FX as a successor to the F-104J.

On December 9, 1976, it was decided to adopt the F-15 from among many candidate aircraft, and the first aircraft arrived at Gifu Air Base on March 27, 1981.
When first introduced, the JASDF's F-15J was essentially the equivalent of the U.S.
Air Force's F-15C Block 26, with some modifications unique to the JASDF.

The main modifications were the addition of the JSDF's unique automatic warning and control system (Badge System) and a high-speed data device (J/ASW-10 data link system) that receives interception control from the E-2C early warning aircraft, and the change of the antenna at the tip of the vertical stabilizer to a mass balance type.

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force first deployed the F-15Js at Nyutabaru Air Base to train pilots, and then began fully deploying them to fighter wings.

Currently, the F-15J is deployed to seven squadrons: the 201st Squadron (Chitose Air Base), the 202nd Squadron (Nyutabaru Air Base), the 203rd Squadron (Chitose Air Base), the 204th Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base), the 303rd Squadron (Komatsu Air Base), the 304th Squadron (Tsukiji Air Base), and the 305th Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base).

Like the U.S.
Air Force, the F-15J is undergoing a Multi-Stage Improvement Program (MSIP) in which equipment is improved and added each year.

For this reason, new antennas have been added and the appearance has changed.

In addition, the aircraft is also being modified to be able to carry the domestically produced air-to-air missile AAM-3.
The F-15J will be the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's main fighter and together with the upcoming FS-X, will play an active role in defending Japan's skies.
