Osaka Castle has been burned down and fallen many times since construction began by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583, and the current castle tower is the third in its series, having been built during the Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods.

It was restored in 1931 with donations from citizens, and the "Great Heisei Renovation" was completed in 1997, resulting in the appearance we see today.

It is registered as a national tangible cultural property.
