Amabiki Kannon is a famous temple that is the 24th temple of the Bando Kannon Pilgrimage, and is said to have been founded in 587 by Horin Dokushu Koji, who immigrated from China.
Emperor Shomu and Empress Komyo were devoted devotees, and later Kobo Daishi made it into a training center for the Shingon sect.
Currently, it is widely known as a sacred place for safe childbirth and child rearing, and is one of the leading temples in the Kanto region, with Enmei Kannon Bodhisattva (a nationally designated important cultural property) worshipped as the principal deity.
It is also known as a famous flower viewing spot, with cherry blossoms, azaleas, peonies, hydrangeas, and other flowers in bloom, and is especially popular during hydrangea season.
