This is a plastic model that requires assembly and painting.
Tools, paint, etc. may be purchased separately.

Product Description: 1/48 scale plastic model.
In 1938, as military tactics shifted from light combat to high-speed hit-and-run tactics, the Army issued an order to Nakajima to prototype the Ki-44, a high-speed heavy fighter that emphasized speed, climb, and dive performance.
Around the same time as the order to develop the Ki-43 light fighter prototype, Nakajima decided on the Har-41, which had the largest engine output at the time, despite its large diameter.
This resulted in a thicker nose and dramatically reduced wing area for higher speeds.
Nakajima's unique butterfly flaps on the trailing edges of the wing improved performance during air combat and takeoff and landing.
Testing revealed poor visibility during takeoff and landing, as well as poor stability at low speeds, discouraging pilots accustomed to the Ki-47 fighter, resulting in poor reception.
However, in a performance comparison with the Bf-109E and Kawasaki Ki-60, the Ki-44 was superior, so it was officially adopted as the Ki-2 single-seat fighter in 1942, and later given the nickname Shoki.
Aircraft equipped with the Ha-41 were called the Ki-2 Single-Seat Fighter Model 1, while aircraft equipped with the even more powerful engine, the Ha-109, were called the Ki-2 Single-Seat Fighter Model Ni.
The Ki-2 model came in three models, A, B, and C, depending on the armament and equipment, and a total of 1,227 of each type were produced between 1940 and 1944, and were used in air defense missions to intercept enemy bombers..
