Description (1,876 characters)
This is a plastic model that requires assembly and painting.
Tools, paint, etc. may be purchased separately.
Product Description: 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit.
The F-86 Sabre was a jet fighter developed as a successor to the P-51D Mustang.
Its improved version, the F-86F, was powered by a J-47-GE-27 engine with 2,760 kg of thrust, and was armed with six 12.7 mm machine guns, as well as various missiles and bombs mounted under the wings.
It also had enhanced bulletproofing.
Midway through production, the leading-edge slats were eliminated, the wing chord was slightly extended, and boundary layer plates were installed to prevent wingtip stall.
These were the F-86F-25 and -35.As a result, the F-86F had superior dogfighting capabilities to the MiG-15, and achieved great success in the latter stages of the Korean War.
However, it was later discovered that the extended-chord design (commonly referred to as a 6-3 leading edge wing) combined with leading-edge slats provided better maneuverability at all speeds, and leading-edge slats were reinstated.
This is known as the F-86F-40.The F-86F-40 was the main aircraft adopted by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force from 1956 (Showa 31),.
and the later model with leading edge slats was also domestically produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
However, the small number of aircraft supplied by the US Air Force prior to that time had old-style boundary layer plates, and some, such as the RF-86F, were converted by the Japanese side to have leading edge slats.
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force had more than 330 F-86Fs, including those supplied by the US military, knockdown production, and licensed production by Mitsubishi.
