The focus lens has been made 93.6% lighter thanks to the high-speed AF rear focus system. By driving the focus lens with a PLM (Pulse Motor) directly connected to the lead screw, we have achieved speeds that are approximately 8.3 times faster on the wide-angle side and approximately 1.7 times faster on the telephoto side compared to current lenses, while also being quieter. Furthermore, when used with the PENTAX K-70, an improved algorithm that enhances the accuracy of AF information exchanged between the lens and body enables smoother AF and shorter AF times, even with dark subjects. The power focus manual focus operation has also been improved, with enhanced focus ring rotation detection accuracy and responsiveness, enabling smooth focus lens operation in sync with focus ring operation.
Quiet autofocus and electromagnetic diaphragm ideal for video shooting. The first K-mount lens to feature an electromagnetic diaphragm. When used with the PENTAX K-70, smooth and precise exposure control is possible in video mode. This enables natural autoexposure even when there are large changes in brightness during video shooting. Combined with the PENTAX K-70, this lens also provides smooth focus tracking and exposure control, while minimizing the sound of focus drive and aperture operation. Its 14-element design in 11 groups effectively suppresses spherical and chromatic aberrations, delivering precise images with minimal color bleeding from wide to telephoto, and enhanced contrast and resolution from center to edge. The rear-focusing system allows for a minimum focusing distance of 0.95m, and the lens does not extend during autofocus, making it easy to use and suitable for a variety of photography, including outdoor activities, sports, and landscapes. The compact, lightweight design features a retractable barrel, achieving a total length of just 89mm. Weighing approximately 442g, it's easy to carry and store in a bag, allowing for effortless photography. Weather-resistant construction: 11 seals throughout the lens prevent water from entering the lens.
