[About Shimokita]
Following the first ship "Osumi" which was commissioned in 1998, the second ship launched in November 2000 is LST-4002 "Shimokita". It features a bridge with a unique planar configuration that takes stealth performance into consideration, and a vast top deck measuring 160m long and 25.8m wide at maximum, with space for vehicles in the front and a helicopter deck in the rear. A 100m long vehicle deck is installed at the front of the ship, and together with the top deck, it can carry several dozen vehicles such as tanks and large vehicles. In addition, the rear part of the ship is a well dock with a length of 60m, which stores two hovercraft-type transport air cushion boats LCAC. It can accommodate 130 crew members, 330 Ground Self-Defense Force personnel, and more than 1,000 people in the event of a disaster. With the arrival of Shimokita, there are now two Osumi-class transport ships. It is expected to play an active role not only in transporting Ground Self-Defense Force troops during emergencies, but also as a supply base for relief operations during large-scale disasters and PKOs (United Nations peacekeeping operations). Not only the exterior of the stealth hull, but also the inside of the well dock, the central storage area at the front, the left and right side hatches used when loading vehicles, the first elevator, and the gate called the central footboard that connects the central hangar and the well dock are all new molds. Three-dimensional, the large lamp at the rear is movable. The flight deck and vehicle deck are molded transparent so you can see the inside even after completion. In addition to two LCAC air cushion boats and two CH-47J helicopters in sailing and stowed states, two new SH-60J patrol helicopters have been added. A set of two missile boats type 1, the fastest ship of the Maritime Self-Defense Force. Focusing on the most cutting-edge vehicles of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, everything from small vehicles to large trucks, tanks, armored vehicles, and gun carriages are realistically rendered in three-dimensional form.
