The destroyer Kagero was the lead ship of the 19 Kagero-class destroyers and was completed at the Maizuru Naval Arsenal in November 1939, just before the outbreak of war.
The Kagero-class was a class of ships that brought together the construction know-how that had evolved from the Toku-class and Shiratsuyu-class ships up to that point. It was a fleet-type destroyer with a displacement of 2,000 tons, three 12.7 cm twin guns, two 61 cm quadruple torpedo tubes, and a 52,000 horsepower engine that could achieve a speed of 35 knots.
Due to its high follow-up capability, the Kagero was used to escort the Akagi, Kaga and other aircraft carrier task forces during the early stages of the Pacific War, and participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Port Darwin air raid and the Indian Ocean campaign.
During the US landings and counterattacks in the Solomon Islands, the ship participated in various operations to recapture Guadalcanal, and after Operation Ke (the Guadalcanal evacuation operation), it was engaged in transport work in the Solomon Islands waters, but in May 1943, during a transport operation to Kolombangara Island, it struck a mine in the Blackett Strait and was killed in action.

The product can be reproduced as it appeared at the time of the outbreak of war, from the time the preparations for the ship were completed in 1941.

- The gray is a slightly lighter shade of gray that mimics the color of the Maizuru Arsenal, and is made up of a total of six part colors, including linoleum and ship bottom colors.

- Compared to the final Yukikaze, the portholes are not closed as they would appear when the ship was first built, and special parts are included to recreate the appearance.
- Reproduces parts that cannot be reproduced at 1/700 scale, including the clamps for the external electrical wiring, the thickness of the steel plates, the portholes and the eaves.
・The bottom of the ship is molded as a single piece
The thickness and overlap of the steel plate are reproduced, resulting in a precise surface texture.
- Intricate carvings are used to recreate the water supply and drainage ports at the bottom, the listening device, and the rivets on the keel.
The main gun is made using a slide mold, with molding applied around the entire turret, giving it a one-piece structure.
- The barrels can be elevated and depressed individually even after assembly, and the muzzle is open thanks to the slide mold.
- The bottom surface, which will not be visible after assembly, has been recreated in great detail, including the shape of the reinforcing beams.
- The 61cm quadruple torpedo tubes, a feature of the Kagero-class, are precisely recreated with three parts: the cover, the torpedo tube, and the torpedo.
・Once assembled, it can be oriented left and right and rotated.
The bridge base is a one-piece molded part, with the side walls shaped and engraved using a slide mold.
・The Type 94 compass on top of the bridge can be rotated even after assembly to align with the main guns.
・Clear molded special parts are used for the bridge windows
The mast is a two-piece structure consisting of a front leg and two rear legs, recreating the simple shape of a plane without a radar.
The chimney is made by pasting the left and right sides together, and the funnel cap is mesh-like and open, giving it a realistic shape.
- The black paint on the funnel cap and the top of the chimney is reproduced by coloring the parts.
The steam exhaust pipe and cooking chimney are separate parts from the engine chimney, giving them a three-dimensional appearance.
- The linoleum parts on the front and rear upper decks are molded in brown colored parts.
- The linoleum presser is expressed with delicate carvings
- The steel deck in the center of the upper deck has a non-slip (strip) pattern reproduced by detailed convex engraving.
The rear torpedo loading device and the searchlight base are integrated into one part using a slide mold, and both the sides and top are engraved.
- The stern is equipped with depth charges, and parts exclusive to the time of the outbreak of war are used.
- Comes with pre-cut stickers to represent the coloring of the battleship flag and the inside of the cutter
- Includes one decal for those who prefer painting and one sticker for assembly without painting, both of which are included only with this product.
・The names of the ships included are Shiranui, Kuroshio, Oyashio, Hayashio, Natsushio, Hatsukaze, Yukikaze, Amatsukaze, Tokitsukaze, Nowake, Arashi, Hagikaze, Maikaze, and Akigumo. ・The destroyer squadron numbers included are 15, 16, and 4. ・The stickers must be cut by the user.
The molded parts come in seven colors: Maizuru Arsenal color, ship bottom color, linoleum color, black, transparent, gold, and white.
