Plastic Models
[Scale] 1/700
The aircraft carrier "Mogami" now has a large aviation work space at the rear of the ship, and new parts have been added to the ship! This product is an unpainted kit that requires assembly and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and the model does not include the bottom of the ship.
This product is made up of conventional (special series) molds and newly added mold parts.
The heavy cruiser "Mogami" was a "light cruiser" built under the London Naval Treaty.
They were built with the intention of replacing their guns and becoming heavy cruisers once treaty restrictions were lifted. The first ship, Mogami, was completed at the Kure Naval Arsenal in 1935.
The displacement was too small for the armament carried, causing problems with recovery performance and strength.
Reinforcement and improvement work was carried out, and the main gun was replaced in 1940.
The ship was fitted with ten 20.3cm guns instead of fifteen 15.5cm guns, and its displacement was increased from the planned 8,500 tons to 12,400 tons.
During the early stages of the Pacific War, the ship was engaged in operations in the southern area, and in June 1942, during the Battle of Midway, it collided with its sister ship, the Mikuma, and returned to the mainland with its bow lost.
During restoration work, the rear of the ship was converted into an aviation work deck and modified to accommodate 11 floatplanes.
Afterwards, the guns were increased and radars were added, and in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, which followed the Battle of the Mariana Islands, the ship was damaged by an attack from a waiting American fleet, and was eventually torpedoed by the destroyer Akebono and sunk in battle.
This ship type was an improved and revised version of the previous Myoko type, and was built as a treaty cruiser.
The first ship, Takao, was completed in 1932 at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal, and four other ships were built: Atago, Chokai, and Maya.
The 20.3 cm twin gun turret can take an elevation angle of 70 degrees, allowing for anti-aircraft fire, and is equipped with five guns.
In 1939, the ship was remodeled, with the bridge being reduced in size, a bulge being installed, and the rear mast being moved to improve communication.
At the start of the war, the ship was engaged in the Southwestern Front invasion operation, but in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, it lost its combat capability due to torpedo attacks by American submarines and retreated.
The war ended in Singapore, where it was taken over by the British Army and sunk at sea.
The product is based on the appearance of the Mogami-class first ship, the Mogami, in 1943 when it was converted into an aircraft carrier.
The No. 4.5 main guns have been removed and a new flight operation deck has been built, and features include the installation of the No. 21 radar, an air defense command post, and an expanded machine gun platform forward of the bridge.
New molds have been used to standardize the differences in the reproduction of equipment depending on the product release date, and some parts have been divided to take painting into consideration. The No. 21 radar has been recreated with more delicate sculptures than previous accessory parts, such as the insulator base for fixing the element on the front side.
・The 12.7cm twin anti-aircraft gun A1 Kai 1 is divided into 6 parts, with improved modeling resolution compared to the existing 2 parts.
The 9m cutter is made into two parts for painting, and the stand is available as a separate part, or you can choose to use the deck as a one-piece mold.
・The canvas, wheelhouse and engine room canopy of the 11m motorboat are separate parts to allow for painting.
Each painting is done and assembly and bonding are done later.
・The 12m internal fire launch can now be expressed without the canvas
- The shipboard stand has a molded uneven shape and light holes, giving it a more precise appearance.
- New parts are used for the chrysanthemum crest on the bow and the side lights on the bridge
- Binocular telescope parts have been added to the air defense command post and compass bridge.
- Added decals for the ship name on the stern (painted in battleship colors) and the white lines on the mast
- The Type 96 25mm machine gun is now standardly constructed in two parts, reducing the amount of painting required.
Hull: The hull is a one-piece structure with the left and right sides molded as a single unit, allowing for a more stable shape when assembled compared to a left and right joint assembly.
- The side bulges are represented as separate parts.
- This part is exclusive to aircraft carriers in order to reproduce the portholes that were reduced in number as a measure to make the ship unsinkable at the start of the war.
Upper Deck - The upper deck is a single piece, with detailed engravings on the linoleum deck and the anti-slip steel deck.
The ventilators and reels are integrated into the deck, and the anti-slip split pattern below the aircraft work deck is delicately carved.
Each deck - Various details are reproduced, such as the machine gun ammunition box, the single machine gun mounting area, and the hose reel.
- The shelter deck is a separate part, and the torpedo equipment compartment on the lower level is also accurately reproduced.
- The aircraft work deck is a one-piece part, and the truss girder structure on the underside is also reproduced.
Bridge - The bridge structure base is a one-piece part with engravings on all four sides created using a slide mold.
- The enlarged machine gun mount in front of the bridge is reproduced with a special part.
Main turret - Heat shield seams on the sides and top of the turret are detailed with engraving
Chimneys - Both the front and rear chimneys are split into left and right halves, and the handrails and double scaffolding are expressed with delicate carvings.
・The chimney's rainproof grille is designed so that the inner cylinder side can be seen through when it is removed.
・The steam exhaust pipe is a separate part from the chimney, which increases the precision.
Masts and aircraft equipment: The rear mast is molded as a single piece with the truss structure underneath, allowing for easy reproduction of detailed shapes.
The floatplane hoisting crane is a one-piece component made using a slide mold, and the hook is also delicately modeled.
- The catapult (Kure Type 2 Model 5) uses a slide mold to realistically reproduce the side and top shapes.
-The molding color is gray to improve workability (to prevent damage when cutting the gate).
- Eight A6M Zero (three-seater) floatplanes and four A6M Zero floatplanes are included
Included decals: Includes markings such as naval ensigns, national flags, and the Japanese flag for aircraft carriers.
・Military flags are available in three sizes
The contents are 1/700 scale of the actual dimensions of 10 width, 6 width, and 3 width.
- Includes the Hinomaru flag of carrier-based aircraft, friendly identification belt (yellow belt), etc., and the Hinomaru flag also includes the one without the white border from the later period of the war.
- Decals featuring the white lines on the mast and the ship's name on the stern (in two colors: gold and solid in naval colors)
[Included Contents] ・Runner x 40 ・Assembly Instructions x 1 ・Decals x 5 *This product is made in Japan
*This product is a plastic model kit that requires assembly.
