Dynamic perspective and excellent image quality with an ultra-wide angle. This lens meets Leica's strict optical standards, achieving the brightness and superior image quality of the Summilux (Summilux) lens with an f/1.7 maximum aperture. The ultra-wide 18mm focal length delivers excellent image quality from center to periphery, creating dynamic perspectives that create immersive photographs and videos. The lens construction, with 12 elements in 9 groups, employs special aspherical lenses to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion, ensuring high resolution from center to periphery. LUMIX's first ultra-wide-angle half-macro photography opens up new avenues of expression. Despite its large aperture and ultra-wide-angle, it achieves half-macro photography with a minimum focusing distance of 0.095m and a maximum magnification of 0.25x (35mm equivalent: 0.5x). This enables bokeh effects that are difficult to achieve with ultra-wide-angle lenses. By getting closer to the subject, you can create images with a significantly blurred background, or by narrowing the aperture, you can capture details in both the subject and background. In addition to the dynamic expression unique to ultra-wide-angle, it also enables impressive, never-before-seen close-ups of the subject.
Advanced video performance for high-quality video expression. The use of inner focus enables fast, high-precision AF focusing. For video recording, the lens suppresses breathing, a phenomenon in which the angle of view changes as the focus position shifts during focusing. It also minimizes changes in the angle of view during focus shifting, and aperture micro-step control allows for precise control of aperture value, even in scenes with large changes in brightness, resulting in smooth exposure changes and natural-looking footage. By selecting between linear and non-linear focus settings on the camera body, the focus ring rotation angle when linear focus is selected can be changed. By adjusting the focus drive amount according to the rotation angle, intuitive and precise focus shifting is achieved, just like with a cinema lens. High-Speed, High-Precision Focusing: While enhancing the benefits of AF control at 240 times per second using a stepping motor and high-precision focusing using a contrast detection method, the lens also achieves higher speeds. Contrast peaks are quickly detected, and the direction of movement and focus position are calculated. Furthermore, faster communication control between the body and lens has been achieved, achieving both precision and speed.
