Tomix HO-2533 EF81 Souto Keirenketsuki/Prestige February 2026 - March 2026 [Product introduction] Tomix's completed HO gauge vehicle, JR EF81 electric locomotive (double-headed coupler, Prestige model) (1 car). The H-rubber is reproduced in black, the wheels use one-piece plate wheel cores, the headlights light up with warm white LEDs, and the power terminal is installed inside the roof-mounted resistor cover. The included printed headmarks are "Cassiopeia, Hokutosei, Hokuriku, Akebono" for HO-2040 and HO-2533, and "Cassiopeia, Hokutosei, Elm, Akebono" for the others. The included electric heating indicator light has pre-drilled mounting holes for HO-2041, HO-2534, and HO-2535 and is optional for installation, while HO-2536 is already installed, and the others are jig-mounted. This pre-drilled installation option allows for optional installation. It can pass through a minimum radius of R600 (excluding S-curve tracks). This prestige model of the HO-2040 comes equipped with metal handrails, wipers, signal flares, bogie steps, whistle, and air hose. The included license plate is the same as the HO-2040. [About the Actual Vehicle] The EF81 electric locomotive was first produced in 1968 and was designed to operate directly on the Japan Sea Longitudinal Line, which spans both DC and AC 50Hz and 60Hz. Developed based on the DC-powered EF65 electric locomotive, the large, 18-meter-long carbody features AC/DC equipment and a rose pink paint job. Originally assigned to the Toyama No. 2 Locomotive Depot and seen mainly on the Sea of Japan side, it was later transferred to the Tabata Locomotive Depot in 1973 and deployed on the Tohoku Main Line and the Joban Line to replace the EF80 electric locomotive, making it a common sight in the Kanto region. Some carriages, which had eaves over the front windows, were equipped with double-headed couplers in preparation for pulling electric trains, and the shape of the skirts changed along with the addition of a compound core device. The carriages used to pull the "Cassiopea" were painted light gray with straight lines of yellow, orange, and blue, and were also used to pull the "Hokutosei" and "Elm" trains, but in 2010 the baton was passed on to the successor, the EF510-500 electric locomotive. The carriages, which were selected to pull the sleeper express "Hokutosei" between Ueno and Aomori, which appeared in 1988, were eventually redesigned with a red body and a silver shooting star design on the side, and traveled back and forth on the Tohoku Main Line at night. No. 95, which became the exclusive locomotive for the European-style passenger car Super Express Rainbow, which appeared in the later stages of the Japanese National Railways, is cherry red with a large "EF81" logo on the side, and even after its retirement as a passenger car, it has maintained its unique appearance and is still in use to pull the "Hokutosei" and "Akebono" trains, and in recent years, the "Cassiopea Cruise Kikou."
