Originally built as a cargo ship for Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, this ship was assigned to the New York route.
With the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War, it was requisitioned as a special seaplane tender and engaged in operations on the Chinese front.
During the Pacific War, it participated in the invasion of the Dutch East Indies and the Kiska Island evacuation operation.
In May 1943, it was torpedoed by a US submarine and sunk while on a transport mission.
This 1/700-scale plastic model kit depicts the "Kamikawa Maru," which was converted into a special seaplane tender.
The limited parts configuration allows for simple, easy assembly and accurate reproduction.
Various newly designed outfitting, including 25mm twin machine guns and aircraft catapults, has been added.
