Scheduled for release around April-May 2026: Tomix's finished N gauge model train, JR Kiha 183 2550 series limited express diesel railcar (Hokuto) add-on set. Tomix 976302 Scheduled for release around April-May 2026 [Product Introduction] Tomix's finished N gauge model train, JR Kiha 183 2550 series limited express diesel railcar (Hokuto) add-on set. The 2550 series "Hokuto" train, capable of 130 km/h operation, is reproduced in the HET color, also known as Funka Bay Blue. The car number is selectable, and a transfer sheet is included in the basic set. The toilet window of the Kiha 182 type is reproduced with the window filled in. The train mark of the Kiha 183 type is reproduced as it appeared on the actual train after being converted to a roll-sign type. The pre-printed train mark is "HOKUTO" already attached. The HET logo on one side of the front of the Kiha 183 type is printed. The Kiha 182 type is reproduced by creating new molds for the roof and end face, and by combining them, the early type and late type (2555 and later) with different exhaust pipe shapes are newly distinguished and reproduced. The early type is used for the unreserved seating car in the basic set. The headlights, taillights, and train mark light up with warm white LEDs. The train features a color prism for illumination in a color close to white, a new current collection system, black bogie frame, and black wheels. It can be extended to form a 9-car train during peak seasons, and this 2-car add-on set can reproduce a train with a KiHa 183 in the middle as a power car. The driver's cab side of the KiHa 183 is equipped with a bogie-mounted Arnold coupler, and a TN coupler for the front and a skirt for the TN coupler are included. [Vehicle Introduction] The KiHa 183 series is a JNR (Japanese National Railways) limited express diesel railcar that appeared in 1979 as the successor to the KiHa 82 series that was used in Hokkaido. The KiHa 183 series 500 series, which was added in 1986 in preparation for the privatization of JNR, underwent a major model change, with an improved running system and a through-type leading car that was designed for splitting and merging. The sleek body with continuous windows was painted in a white and red/orange stripe livery that was different from the conventional JNR limited express livery. After the privatization, the 550 series also appeared, which was designed from the start to operate at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The KiHa 183 series underwent modifications and corresponding paint changes to suit each operating line, resulting in a wide variety of models, so much so that it was commonly called the "KiHa 183 series swamp." The limited express "Hokuto" between Hakodate and Sapporo underwent changes to its interior and exterior in 1994 to coincide with the appearance of the KiHa 281 series "Super Hokuto," and its exterior was similar to that of the KiHa 281 The KiHa 183 series used for the "Hokuto" service has been repainted in a bright gray color based on the original series, with blue and green stripes, also known as Funka Bay Blue. The HET-colored KiHa 183 series includes the 2550 series, which is based on the 550 series but features enhanced brakes. Due to differences in brake pressure, it cannot be mixed with other KiHa 183 series trains. However, it is used on the "Hokuto" service, which operates at a maximum speed of 130 km/h, achieving a significant reduction in travel time between Hakodate and Sapporo.
