Scheduled for release around April to May 2026, this is a finished HO gauge model train from Tomix, the JNR diesel railcar Kiha 40 500 series (late model) (T) (1 car). Tomix HO-437 Kiha 40-500 Kouki T Scheduled for release around April to May 2026 [Product Introduction] This is a finished HO gauge model train from Tomix, the JNR diesel railcar Kiha 40 500 series (late model) (T) (1 car). The body is newly reproduced with a slightly larger vertical dimension than the 2000 series and features unit sash windows with rounded corners on the inside of the frame. It reproduces the later model from car number 554 onwards, where the vertical rain gutters are housed inside the car body. The bogies are DT44A and TR227A. The undercarriage reproduces the complex form unique to diesel railcars, including the DMF15 engine and various other equipment. The front jumper plug can be fitted with either a hose or a plug cover. The front display section is interchangeable and comes with pre-printed parts for "Local (navy blue background) / Rapid". The side indicator lights are pre-installed clear parts and some markings are pre-printed. The car number is selectable and comes with transfer decals. Headlights and taillights are included, and the front display unit has an ON-OFF switch. The headlights use warm white LEDs, the taillights use red LEDs, and the front display unit uses white LEDs. The driver's cab interior light illuminates when the train is in the rear or between coupled cars. The driver's cab interior light can be switched on even when the headlights, taillights, and front display unit are off when the driver's cab is in the middle of the train. Close-coupling TN couplers are standard equipment. It can pass through a minimum radius of R490 (excluding S-shaped curves). The body is the same as HO-436 and is a trailer specification without a motor. [Set contents and formation example] [Kiha 40 (M) (late model)] (HO-436) + [Kiha 40 (T) (late model)] (HO-437) *HO-436 is sold separately. [Introduction to the actual train] The Kiha 40 series is a general-purpose diesel railcar developed by Japanese National Railways as a successor to the Kiha 10 series, which was aging at the time, and appeared in 1977. The KiHa 40 series 500 series consisted of vehicles with driver's cabs at both ends and vehicles with a driver's cab at only one end, each with specifications adapted to the climate of the region and differences in the presence or absence of toilets. The KiHa 40 series 500 series were vehicles with driver's cabs at both ends, mainly deployed in Tohoku as cold-weather vehicles. At first glance, they looked similar to the KiHa 40 series 2000 series, which had driver's cabs at both ends and was designed for warmer climates. However, the side unit sash windows were of the type where the upper section drops down and the lower section rises, and were slightly larger vertically than those of the 2000 series. Also, while the inner corners of the sash frames of the 2000 series were nearly right angles, those of the 500 series had rounded corners (R). When it first appeared, it had a single color of vermilion No. 5, known as the "Metropolitan Area Color." However, from the later period of Japanese National Railways (JNR) to the privatization of JNR (JNR), repainted cars known as regional colors appeared in various locations. For example, the Morioka color, featuring a white base with red stripes, appeared in northern Tohoku, centered around Morioka. For the Iiyama Line in the Shin'etsu region, cars with white and blue paintwork, featuring orange diagonal stripes and a logo with the French phrase "VOITURE AMITIE'" (Friendship Train) were introduced, expanding the color variations of the KiHa 40 series.
