Scheduled for release around April-May 2026, this is a finished HO gauge model train from Tomix, the JR diesel railcar Kiha 40 500 series (late model, Morioka color) (T) (1 car). Tomix HO-441 Kiha 40-500 Kouki/Morioka T Scheduled for release around April-May 2026 [Product Introduction] This is a finished HO gauge model train from Tomix, the JR diesel railcar Kiha 40 500 series (late model, Morioka color) (T) (1 car). The body is newly reproduced with a slightly larger vertical dimension than the 2000 series and features unit sash windows with rounded corners on the inside of the frame. It reproduces the later model from car number 554 onwards, where the vertical rain gutters are housed inside the car body. The bogies are DT44A and TR227A. The undercarriage reproduces the complex form unique to diesel railcars, including the DMF15 engine and various other equipment. The front jumper plug can be fitted with either a hose or a plug cover. The front display section is interchangeable and comes with pre-printed parts for "Local (navy blue background) / Rapid". The side indicator lights are pre-installed clear parts and some markings are pre-printed. The car number is selectable and comes with a transfer sheet. The headlights and front display have ON-OFF switches. The headlights use warm white LEDs, the taillights use red LEDs, and the front display uses white LEDs. The driver's cab is equipped with interior lighting that illuminates the driver's cab when the train is in the rear or between coupled cars. The driver's cab interior lighting can be switched on, allowing it to be illuminated even when the headlights, taillights, and front display are off when the driver's cab is in the middle of a train. It comes standard with close-coupling TN couplers. It can pass through a minimum radius of R490 (excluding S-shaped curves). The car body is the same as HO-440, and it is a trailer specification without a motor. [Set contents and formation example] ● Hachinohe Line (around 2011) ← Kuji [Kiha 40 (M) (late model, Morioka color)] (HO-440) + [Kiha 40 (T) (late model, Morioka color)] (HO-441) *HO-440 is sold separately. [Vehicle Introduction] The KiHa 40 series is a general-purpose diesel railcar developed by Japanese National Railways (JNR) as a successor to the aging KiHa 10 series, and it debuted in 1977. There are vehicles with driver's cabs at both ends that can be operated as a single unit, and vehicles with a driver's cab on only one end, and various sub-series classifications were created with specifications suited to the climate of each region, as well as differences in the presence or absence of toilets. The KiHa 40 series 500 sub-series is a vehicle with driver's cabs at both ends, mainly deployed in Tohoku as a cold-weather vehicle. At first glance, it looks similar to the KiHa 40 series 2000 sub-series, which is a double-ended vehicle for warmer regions, but the side unit sash windows are of the upper-downward and lower-upward type, are slightly larger vertically than the 2000 sub-series, and the four inner corners of the sash frame are rounded (R) on the 500 sub-series, whereas on the 2000 sub-series they are nearly right angles. When it first appeared, it had a single color of vermilion No. 5, known as the "Metropolitan Area Color." However, from the later period of Japanese National Railways (JNR) to the privatization of JNR (JNR), repainted cars known as regional colors appeared in various locations. For example, the Morioka color, featuring a white base with red stripes, appeared in northern Tohoku, centered around Morioka. For the Iiyama Line in the Shin'etsu region, cars with white and blue paintwork, featuring orange diagonal stripes and a logo with the French phrase "VOITURE AMITIE'" (Friendship Train) were introduced, expanding the color variations of the KiHa 40 series.
