Scheduled for release around April-May 2026. This is a Tomix ready-to-run N gauge model train, a JNR 401 series commuter train (high driver's cab) add-on set. Tomix 97229 Scheduled for release around April-May 2026 [Product Introduction] This is a Tomix ready-to-run N gauge model train, a JNR 401 series commuter train (high driver's cab) add-on set. [Vehicle Guide] The Joban Line is DC electrified up to Toride in Ibaraki Prefecture, but beyond that point it becomes AC electrified to avoid affecting the geomagnetic observatory located along the line. Therefore, the 401 series commuter train, which is AC/DC compatible, was developed in 1960 for medium-distance travel beyond Toride. The body shape, with three double doors on each side and a semi-cross seating interior, became the basis for subsequent JNR commuter trains. The initial front shape was a low driver's cab with a large front window, the same as the 153 series, but from the 23rd Kuha 401 type onwards, a high driver's cab structure was adopted as a measure against level crossing accidents, similar to the 153 series, and the vertical dimension of the front window was also reduced and the position was raised. The Moha 400 type, which was equipped with a pantograph, strongly exhibited the characteristics of an AC/DC train with its roof equipment and underfloor transformer. The standard rose pink color for AC/DC trains. The train's exterior, painted in what is also known as Red No. 13 with a cream-colored band on the front as a warning color, was affectionately called "Red Train" by commuters and students along the line. However, in preparation for the Tsukuba Expo, it was gradually changed to a cream-colored livery with a blue band starting around 1983. While it was often coupled with the 403 and 415 series, during the transition period of the paint change, it could also be seen coupled with the new paint scheme. [Product Features] High-grade (HG) specification. The Kuha car has a high driver's cab and is reproduced with the standard Red No. 13 paint scheme for AC/DC trains and the cream-colored band on the front as a warning color. The Kuha car also reproduces the body with dimensions different from the 113 series, from the crew door to the sash window. The gangway plate on the front gangway door is a separate part, allowing you to choose between small or large. The voltage detection antenna base is conical, and a square type can be replaced with the included part. The Joban Line radio antenna has molded piping, and the antenna body is made of plastic. The undercarriage of the Moha 400 series, with parts already installed, reproduces the transformers and other features characteristic of AC/DC electric trains. The headlights, taillights, and front display are equipped with a constant lighting circuit board and an ON-OFF switch. The headlights, taillights, and front display are illuminated with warm white LEDs. The front display is illuminated in a color close to white using a color prism. The front display is interchangeable and comes with pre-printed parts "Local (white background)" and "White Curtain". The car number is selectable and comes with a transfer sheet (also included in the add-on set). New current collection system, black wheels, and TN couplers (SP) are standard equipment. The Moha 401 series is a trailer car add-on set of 4 cars. Stored in a cardboard box. POINT: Reproduces the appearance of the train affectionately known as the "Red Train," with its red No. 13 and cream stripe on the front.
