The EF65 500 series was introduced from 1964 to 1965 (1964-1965) based on the EF60 and was used to pull the 20 series sleeper express and KoKi 10000 series high-speed freight trains, which were the flagship trains on the Tokaido Main Line at the time.
Passenger trains are called P-type and freight trains are called F-type, and they are characterized by their different equipment.
In addition, due to a shortage of passenger locomotives, eight EF65 0-series locomotives were modified and incorporated into the line.
The use of a slotless motor allows for a smoother ride.
